Capitals Pitching Sharp Versus Tucson Nationals

Edmonton Capitals News Release

Tucson, AZ - The Edmonton Capitals continue to get some quality innings of baseball in under the desert heat as Spring Training enters its 11th day. The Caps defeated the Tucson Nationals senior men's semi-professional team 4 - 1 in recent action. Alexander Francisco gave up the only run during his 5 innings of work as was impressive in his start according to Capitals Pitching Coach Mark Randall.

"Alexander looked pretty solid on the mound. He throws lots of strikes and is arguably our best hitting pitcher. Had a line drive in the gap and then got thrown out going to third on a double by Tim Battle. Overall, you'd have to call it a pretty good outing."

The Capitals 2009 Most Valuable Pitcher Lou Pote also worked a couple of scoreless innings in relief with 4 strikeouts and no walks. His pitch count was low and definitely impressed Randall.

"Lou Pote was outstanding and looked in mid season form. He mixed in some off-speed pitches and carved up the batters he faced today. I'm sure glad he's back."

The Capitals will play the Arizona Diamondbacks extended spring training roster once more on Saturday night. There are 27 players remaining in camp and the final cuts are expected later this weekend.

The Capitals Home Opener is set for Tuesday June 1. Season seats are on sale now starting at under $10 per seat. Retail tickets for all 45 home games this season are also on sale now at any Ticketmaster location, at the TELUS Field Box Office during regular business hours (Monday through Friday), by calling (780) 414-GOAL (4625) or online at capsbaseball.ca.

The Edmonton Capitals 2010 season is presented by Canadian Tire.
