Sacramento Capitals News Release

(Sacramento, CA) - Mardy Fish, who will play with the Sacramento Capitals this season as a marquee player, earned a No. 1 U.S. men's ranking for the first time in his career when he beat No. 6-seeded David Ferrer 7-5, 6-2 on Wednesday at the Sony Ericsson Open.

"Mardy is one of the best singles players on tour right now," Capitals Coach Wayne Bryan said. "With a serve that reaches upwards to 130 MPH, he is incredibly exciting to watch. He is the type of player juniors should try to emulate."

The 29-year-old Fish will be showcased with the Capitals of World TeamTennis at Sunrise Mall on July 15. The Sacramento Capitals will also feature world-renowned tennis star Serena Williams as a marquee player during the team's opening weekend on July 8-10.

Fish claimed consecutive titles in 2010 in Atlanta and Newport, and two doubles titles in 2009 and 2010 respectively along with Capitals standout Mark Knowles. Fish took home a Silver Medal in the 2002 Beijing Olympics. He has five singles titles and eight doubles titles on the ATP Tour.
