Capitals Announce 2011 NAL Schedule

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Capitals announced their 2011 North American League schedule today, which sees the team play a 96-game season in the inaugural year of the NAL, an independent circuit that includes Edmonton's previous league, the Golden Baseball League, as well as the Northern League and the United Baseball League.

Tickets for Capitals home games remain one of the most affordable family entertainment options in the city starting at just $10. Reserved grandstand season seats start and under $9 per game! All-inclusive field level executive suites are still available as well as a variety of flex plans and season seat packages for adults, youth and seniors. Retail tickets for all 48 regular season home games are on sale now at all Ticketmaster outlets, online at capsbaseball.ca or by calling (780) 414-GOAL.

The 2011 Capitals schedule includes 48 home games and 48 away games, and starts on Thursday, May 26 on the road in Calgary against the Vipers. The provincial rivals play four games in Calgary prior to the Capitals' home opener on Tuesday, May 31 at 7 p.m. at TELUS Field, which kicks off a six-game opening series against the Vipers in Edmonton.

The opening series at TELUS Field includes the third annual Home Run Hooky mid-week day game on Wednesday, June 1 at 11 a.m. The Capitals invite all area schools to take advantage of a special group rate and enjoy a field trip to the ballpark that day.

The 2011 Capitals home schedule is heavy on weekend action, with eight Thursday games, 10 Friday games, 10 Saturday games and nine Sunday games. Two Saturday games will be afternoon starts at 2 p.m. on June 11 versus the Lake County Fielders and July 16 against Calgary. The Lake County Fielders are currently owned by Hollywood actor Kevin Costner. There are also two Sunday double-headers scheduled for August 14 versus the Yuma Scorpions and August 28 against Calgary.

The Scorpions are scheduled to play nine games in Edmonton this season, with one series June 23-26 and another August 12-17. Yuma features player/manager Jose Canseco, a former MLB all-star, American League MVP and World Series champion. His twin brother Ozzie, also a former Major Leaguer, plays and coaches with the Scorpions as well.

The Capitals home schedule also features a Canada Day series slated for Tuesday, June 28 through Saturday, July 2 against the Maui Na Koa Ikaika. The Friday, July 1 game provides fans with a great venue to celebrate our nation's birthday and the best seat in the city for the annual river valley fireworks display.

The 2011 North American League season consists of five teams in the Northern Division, including the Capitals, Calgary Vipers, Chico (California) Outlaws, Maui (Hawaii) Na Koa Ikaika and Lake County (Illinois) Fielders, as well as four teams from Texas - Edinburg Roadrunners, McAllen Thunder, San Angelo Colts and Rio Grande Valley Whitewings - and the Yuma (Arizona) Scorpions in the Southern Division.
