Cape Cod Frenzy News Release
Hyannis, Massachusetts: On a night where the townsfolk came out to see the 7'9 Sun Ming Ming, it was the Cape Cod Frenzy's 'A game' that loomed the largest. The Frenzy soundly defeated the road weary Maryland Nighthawks 168-140.
The Frenzy's high flying All Star forward Rob Sanders wowed the crowd with acrobatic assaults on the rim, leaving Ming behind on the ground. Sanders went over the top for two emphatic alleyoop slams, one a one handed grab.
The Frenzy attacked early and often. In a first quarter sequence, they scored three straight 3D baskets - 9 points in about 20 seconds. The high octane offense was fueled by Sanders, and the outside shooting of Scott Hazelton and Rashid Al-Kaleem. The Frenzy led at 81-60 at the half.
Ming struggled to score on the interior but left open from fifteen feet, he swished a jumper, to the delight of the crowd. Ming finished with 7 points.
In the second half, Maryland's streetball sensation, Randy "White Chocolate" Gill, and ABA All Star, Drew "Spongebob" Washington, provided offense for the Nighthawks but they were unable to contain the Frenzy attack. The lead eventually burgeoned to nearlly forty points before Coach Corcoran emptied his bench. Fan favorite and walk on, Charlie Large, scored a layup over Ming which brought raucous applause from the audience.
The Frenzy were led in scoring by Scott Hazelton's 35 points. Rob Sanders added 33, while Mark Flavin and Rashid Al-Kaleem scored 19 a piece.
Drew Washington, who sat out over a quarter due to a sprained ankle, still managed to score 45 points. Randy Gill added 33.
The Frenzy improve to 10-16 in the rugged Blue North Division, while the Nighthawks return home 12-15 after an 0-3 northern road triip.
The Frenzy hit the road for Rochester after tonight's game to face the ABA Champion Rochester Razorsharks for the third time this season at the Blue Cross Arena. The Frenzy hope the third time is a charm as they attempt to break Rochester's homecourt winning streak going back to last season.
