Belleville Bulls News Release
BELLEVILLE, ON - Bulls Head Coach and General Manager George Burnett has been busy of late, announcing that the team has acquired 18 year-old goaltender John Chartrand from the Barrie Colts in exchange for a pair of draft picks. The Bulls send a fifth round selection in 2012 and Windsor's fourth round pick in 2013 in a trade that addresses their situation in goal.
A native of Barrie, Chartrand enters his third season in the Ontario Hockey League, joining his third team after stints in Niagara and Barrie. The former fourth round pick in 2009 has a career 14-18-1-0 record to go along with a 4.39 goals against average and .873 save percentage. He's also made one career start against Belleville that came back on October 13th, 2010 at the Yardmen when he turned away 34 of 38 shots in a 5-4 win.
"I felt it was important to address our goaltending scenario here prior to training camp," said Burnett following the deal. "We have two very capable young goaltenders now who can push each other to succeed every night. We're happy to add a guy who has prior experience in the league."
Chartrand has been dealt one other time in his junior hockey career as the Barrie Colts acquired him back on December 8th from Niagara in return for a pair of draft picks.
