
Canucks Sign Former Wheat King Simek

The Vancouver Canucks, the NHL affiliate of the Manitoba Moose, announced they have signed forward Juraj Simek.
Simek, 19, spent his first season in North America last year with the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings. In 58 games in Brandon, the Presov, Slovakia native scored 28 goals and 29 assists for 57 points and 41 penalty minutes to finish eighth in rookie scoring in the WHL. In nine playoff games, Simek scored a goal and five assists for six points and six penalty minutes. Simek also appeared with the Swiss National Junior Team at the IIHF Under-20 Championships in both 2006 and 2007.
Simek was originally Vancouver's sixth round choice, 167th overall, in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
