Canucks acquire Pronger from Columbus, Assign him to Moose

The Vancouver Canucks, the NHL affiliate of the Manitoba Moose, announced today they have acquired centre/left winger Sean Pronger from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for left winger Zenith Komarniski. Vancouver then directly assigned Pronger to the Moose.

So far in 2003-04, Komarniski has played in all 10 of Manitoba's games. The 25-year old Edmonton, AB native has yet to register a point, but has collected 35 penalty minutes. In 2002-03, Komarniski made the switch from defence to left wing and then scored a career-high 15 goals in 53 games. He finished the season with 23 points and 94 PIM. He played one game with the Canucks last season where he collected two penalty minutes in 3-1 win over Nashville Predators on Dec. 19/02. In 136 career games with the Moose, Komarniski has scored 20 goals and 28 assists to go along with 271 PIM.

This will be Pronger's second go-around with the Moose, as he played parts of two seasons with Manitoba during their days in the International Hockey League. So far in seven games with the Syracuse Crunch in 2003-04, the 30-year old Thunder Bay, ON native has scored two goals and added seven PIM. Last season, Pronger played in 78 games with the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, scoring seven goals and six assists to go with 72 PIM. He has played in 257 career NHL games with Anaheim, Boston, Pittsburgh, New York, Los Angeles, and Columbus. In that stretch, he's collected 23 goals and 58 points as well as 157 PIM. Pronger first joined the Moose on March 16, 1999 along with Keith McCambridge from the Providence Bruins in exchange for Terry Hollinger. He played 14 games in 1999-2000, scoring three goals and eight points. The following year, he played in all 82 games scoring 18 goals and 39 points to finish fifth in team scoring.

Pronger was originally drafted by the Canucks as their third choice, 51st overall in the 1991 NHL entry draft.
