Cantrell, Notree Get Weekly Awards

Boise, Idaho (Jan. 6, 2003)— The Continental Basketball Association announced today that Yakima Sun Kings forward Damien Cantrell was named National Conference Player of the Week, while Gary Steelheads guard Bryant Notree garnered American Conference honors, for the period of Dec. 29-Jan. 4.

In his first CBA season, Cantrell is leading the Sun Kings with 10.5 rpg. In three games (2-1) last week he posted 14.0 rpg, to go along with his 15.0 ppg, 3.0 apg and 2.3 spg. In a Jan. 3 victory over the Idaho Stampede (100-89, 6-1) the University of San Francisco ('99) product tallied game highs in points (20) and rebounds (16).

Notree, also in his first CBA campaign, posted 29.0 ppg and 6.3 rpg in three games (2-1) last week. The Steelheads concluded a franchise record eight-game winning streak on Jan. 4, falling to the Grand Rapids Hoops (139-125, 6-1). In the loss Notree posted game highs in points (36) and rebounds (11).

Other players receiving consideration for National Conference honors were Dakota Wizards forward Andy Panko (24.7 ppg, 6.0 rpg), Idaho Stampede center Antonio Harvey (9.5 rpg, 2.5 bpg), and Sioux Falls Skyforce guard Ray Weathers (20.7 ppg). The three other players receiving consideration in the American Conference were Rockford Lightning guard Albert White (23.5 ppg, 7.5 rpg), Grand Rapids Hoops forward Jerald Honeycutt (23.3 ppg, 7.0 rpg), and Great Lakes Storm forward James Head (19.8 ppg, 7.5 rpg).
