Boston, MA (May 4, 2007) - The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) announced today they sent goalie Chris Garrity to the Washington Bayhawks. In return the Cannons receive Washington's 2007 first round collegiate draft pick (#2 overall), 2007 third round collegiate draft pick (#21 overall), 2008 first round collegiate draft pick and goalie Greg Havalchak.
"We made this trade in an effort to honor Chris's request to play close to home, for Washington," said Jason Chandler, Cannons General Manager. "Chris was an outstanding goalie for the Cannons and we appreciate all that he meant to the organization. We received a great deal of value and will use our draft choices to help stock the Cannons for the near and distant future."
"Chris will certainly be missed, but this was a trade we had to make," said Bill Daye, Cannons Head Coach. "Not only did we acquire two first round picks and a third round selection to strengthen our team but we also got a solid goaltender in Greg Havalchak."
"Our team is in a stronger position today than it was yesterday," Daye continued.
Havalchak is a 2006 Rutgers graduate. He was drafted by the Bayhawks last season and appeared in eight games with a save percentage of .500.
The Cannons currently hold the number two and number eight overall picks in the 2007 MLL Collegiate Draft. Boston now also has two first round picks in 2008.
The Cannons open their 2007 season at the Washington Bayhawks on May 12. Boston's home opener is Saturday May 19 against the defending MLL champion Philadelphia Barrage.
