Boston Cannons News Release

Boston, MA (July 11, 2007) - The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) announced today the completion of three separate trades. Boston made all three moves yesterday prior to the 11:59PM (7/10/07) MLL trade deadline. The Cannons acquired midfielder Kevin Dougherty from L.A. along with the Riptide's 2008 4th round collegiate draft pick in exchange for attackman Chazz Woodson.

Boston picked up midfielder Tom Zummo from San Francisco. The Cannons sent their 2008 2nd round collegiate draft pick, 2008 4th round collegiate draft pick and 2008 4th round supplemental draft pick to the Dragons.

The Cannons also traded goaltender Greg Havalchak to the Rochester Rattlers in exchange for Rochester's 2008 4th round collegiate draft selection.

Dougherty, a 2004 Syracuse graduate, played all of 2006 and five games in 2007 with the L.A. Riptide. He finished the 2006 season with 12 goals, 1 two-point goal and 12 assists for 25 total points. So far this season Dougherty has 3 goals and 2 assists.

Dougherty played one game for Rochester in 2004. He was a member of Syracuse's 2004 National Championship team finishing that season with 21 goals and 11 assists. He's employed as a teacher in Syracuse.

"Kevin gives us a scoring and dodging threat from up top," said Bill Daye, Cannons head coach. "He is a perfect fit for our offense. Kevin helps us in transition and will keep the ball moving. He is a key ingredient to our overall scheme."

In exchange for Dougherty the Cannons give up dynamic and acrobatic attackman Chazz Woodson. He has been with the Cannons since 2006. Last year Woodson finished with the season with 16 goals and 2 assists. He has 10 goals and 3 assists so far this season.

"Trading Chazz was an incredibly difficult decision," said Daye. "He is a great player on the field and an even better person off the field. L.A. fans will love watching Chazz Woodson. He is as exciting as they come and he will be a great role model for their young fans. We will certainly miss his presence."

"That said," Daye continued. "We needed to add depth to our midfield. Dougherty does that, he helps our offense as a whole immensely."

"The entire Cannons organization is very thankful for all that Chazz has done for our team," said Jason Chandler, Cannons general manager. "This deal was very tough to make on a personal level for me. You couldn't ask for a better person to represent your team than Chazz Woodson. He is a great talent and he was a fantastic ambassador for the Boston Cannons."

In a separate trade the Cannons acquired another midfielder, Tom Zummo, from the San Francisco Dragons. Zummo is in his third MLL season. He has been a member of the Dragons since 2006. Last year he finished the season with 20 goals, 5 two-pointers and 8 assists for 33 total points. Zummo was named to the 2007 MLL All-Star Team. To date this season he has 4 goals and 3 assists.

Zummo was a three-time first-team All-American at NYIT. He was the Division II midfielder of the year his senior season in 2005.

"Zummo is a player we've been interested in for a long time," said Daye. "He is another midfielder that can stretch the defense with his outside shooting and dodge from up top. Similar to Dougherty he is a great fit to help improve our offense."

Boston's final trade deadline deal sent goaltender Greg Havalchak to Rochester. For Havalchak the Cannons received the Rattlers 2008 4th round collegiate draft selection.

The Cannons play this weekend on the road. Boston travels to Chicago to take on the Machine at 8:00PM ET at Toyota Park. Fans can listen to all the action live on ESPN Radio Boston, AM 890.
