Boston Cannons News Release

The 2-0 Cannons host the defending MLL Champion Baltimore Bayhawks at Cawley Stadium, Lowell, MA. this Saturday June 14th at 7:00PM. The Bayhawks are currently 1-1, but they play Bridgeport on Thursday June 12th before coming to play the Cannons on Saturday. For the second straight season, the Cannons head into their third weekend of action with a perfect 2-0 record. Boston tied an MLL record with 23 goals against Bridgeport on Friday June 6, on their way to a 23-17 win over the Barrage (see story below).

The win makes the Cannons perfect in their history in road openers (3-0) and improves their all-time record against the Barrage to 7-2. Boston and Long Island are tied for first place in the MLL's American Division, both with 2-0 records. Baltimore is currently knotted with Rochester atop the National Division, with each team boasting even 1-1 records.

The Bayhawks dropped their season opener 14-12 to the Lizards on May 31. Baltimore notched its first win on June 5 against New Jersey, 20-16.

The Bayhawks are the only remaining MLL team against which the Cannons are yet to post a victory. Boston is winless in four regular season meetings against Baltimore. The Cannons have also been ousted from the semi-final round of the MLL postseason by the Bayhawks in two consecutive seasons.

The Cannons played the Bayhawks close in 2001, losing by one goal (14-13) on June 30, 2001 and also by a goal in the 2001 semi-finals (12-11) on September 1, 2001. Boston struggled with Baltimore in 2002, losing by an average of seven goals in three contests.

The Bayhawks boast arguably the best all-around team in the MLL. Offensively, Mark Millon and Gary Gait lead Baltimore. Millon currently leads the MLL in both goals and points. He is second on the all-time MLL leader-board in both categories. John Blatchley has provided an early season spark for Baltimore; he currently leads the league in assists with five (tied with three others including Cannons attackman Conor Gill).

The Bayhawks also have the best goalie in the league in Greg Cattrano. Cattrano is the reigning MLL MVP.

You can catch all the live play-by-play of the game on the Boston Cannons Web Radio Network presented by New Balance with Jason Chandler. The pregame show begins at 6:45PM. Faceoff on Saturday is at 7:00PM.
