Boston Cannons News Release
BOSTON, MA (January 10, 2014) - The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced today the acquisition of Charlotte Hounds attackman Owen Blye in exchange for a 4th round pick in the 2015 MLL draft.
Blye, a University of Maryland graduate, helped the Terps reach the NCAA championship game twice and was a 2013 Preseason Honorable Mention All-American as well as team captain. Blye was selected as the 24th pick of the MLL draft by Charlotte in 2013. At Maryland, Blye received the Van Trump award as the Best Overall Attackman for the Terps after collecting 20 goals and 20 assists and serving as team captain his junior year.
"We are excited to acquire Owen and have him join the Cannons for training camp." Cannons Head Coach John Tucker stated. "Owen was a 2-year captain at Maryland and has the size and speed to be an impactful player in this league."
In high school, Blye was a key member of Downingtown East's 2007 state title team under Cannons new Assistant Coach Tom Slate. Blye was a 2008 US Lacrosse High School All-American and was ranked as the no. 8 freshman attackman in the nation. He totaled 120 goals and 145 assists at Downingtown East under Coach Slate and was named the 2008 EPSLA Player of the Year after scoring 25 goals and adding 28 assists. Blye helped Downingtown East win the back-to-back Suburban League titles, including being named the 2007 championship game MVP.
The Cannons will open their 2104 Season at home on April 26 at 7:00pm against the defending MLL Champion Chesapeake Bayhawks.
