New England Riptide News Release
Lowell, Ma -August 14 - Eileen Canney and Sarah Pauly took the circle tonight in the first of a four game series between the New England Riptide and Washington Glory. Each was seeking to win her 12th game of the year to tie Angela Tincher and Katie Burkhart for a share of the league lead. It would be all Canney tonight as the Riptide touched up Pauly for nine hits on the way to a 4-0 win. Canney was masterful, allowing only two hits, two walks and striking out seven.
The Riptide took a 2-0 lead after three. KJ Kelley led off with a single and was forced on a ground out by Shanel Scott. Scott immediately proceeded to steal her league leading 20th base of the year. After a second out, a single by Jackie Pasquerella scored Scott. She stole second and came home on a single by Lisa Modglin.
Three consecutive singles extended the Riptide lead to 4-0 in the fifth. Scott, Carri Martin and Pasquerella opened the frame with the singles and Modglin got her second RBI with a sac fly. The inning was highlighted by a double steal by Scott and Martin, Scott's 21st.
The Riptide conclude their regular season with games against the Glory on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Martin Softball Field. Game time for Sunday is 5:05 and for Friday and Saturday, 7:05.
