West Oahu CaneFires News Release
The West Oahu CaneFires held on to win their second consecutive game in a 5-3 victory over the Waikiki BeachBoys this afternoon at Hans L'Orange Park. The game was shortened to seven innings due to a pre-game agreement by both teams enacted to save the arms of the pitching staff; today marked the seventh consecutive day of games for both squads, and the coaching staffs don't want to tax their pitchers with 25 games remaining in the season.
West Oahu (4-10-1) received a double dose of power at the plate courtesy of Todd Martin and Anthony Hatch who each homered and drove in two runs. Centerfielder Craig Gentry also singled and doubled in support of the CaneFires.
Dan Murphy and Hector Pellot each notched their first HWB home runs to keep Waikiki (7-8) in the game, as both players connected for solo blasts in the third and seventh innings, respectively.
Michael Cooper (1-0, 11.05 ERA) picked up the victory after not allowing a run on two hits through 1 2/3 innings in relief of starter Fumikazu Kimura. Aaron Jensen (1-1, 7.30 ERA) was saddled with the loss after allowing three runs in the game's final two frames.
Both squads return to Hans L'Orange Park for the finale of the three-game series tomorrow at noon.
