
Cane Cutters Taken in MLB Draft

Two Acadiana Cane Cutters heard their names called this week during the MLB Draft. Local product Taylor Dugas was drafted in the 8th round by Chicago and Josh Burris went to Minnesota in the 17th.
Dugas, fresh from the SEC Regionals was due to report to the Cane Cutters this weekend. "While we are excited for Taylor, we were looking forward to having him as part of our team," said Coach Lonny Landry of the Cane Cutters. "He's a fine young man on and off the field. When he makes his decision, we'll be pulling for him."
In 2011, Dugas led the Crimson Tide with a .349 batting average and 8 homeruns. He was selected to the 2nd team-All SEC as well as the All-Defensive team.
After 3 seasons with Alabama, Dugas boast a batting average of .365, with 263 total hits, 12 homeruns and 97 runs bat.
LSU-E product, Josh Burris has jumped right in as a Cane Cutter, hitting as well as pitching for the team in their young season. "Josh can hit and has the wheels to stretch it out," says Landry. "He's fun to watch, he loves the game and it shows when he's out there! If he takes this opportunity, we'll definitely have a gap in our lineup."
