Cane Cutters Fall to Generals

July 30, 2013 - Texas Collegiate League (TCL)
Acadiana Cane Cutters News Release

The Victoria Generals marched into Acadiana for the series opener of a two-game set Tuesday night at Fabacher Field. With just ten games remaining on the 2013 regular season schedule, the Cane Cutters still sat perched atop the Texas Collegiate League second-half standings by a full game over the Brazos Valley Bombers entering this evening's play.

The Generals didn't waste much time Tuesday night when they greeted Cane Cutters' starting pitcher Justin Sinibaldi with a solo blast compliments of the second hitter of the night, Romeo Cortina. Sinibaldi would go on to settle in however; tossing seven innings of one-run baseball while accumulating five strikeouts.

Catcher Mitchell Nau and shortstop Logan Taylor got Acadiana on the scoreboard in the third by notching back-to-back doubles with ducks on the pond to set the home team up with the 2-1 lead. After a string of zeroes on the scoreboard, the tide would later turn, as a flurry of scoring commenced with just one of swing of the bat. Victoria catcher Jordan Camel would launch a grand slam over the right field wall to put the Generals in the driver's seat with a 5-2 lead in the eighth.

The Canes' would retaliate in the bottom of the frame, as centerfielder Connor Barron parked a full-count fastball over the "˜355' sign in right to score Logan Taylor and draw the Cutters within a run. Later in the inning, Cal State Bakersfield product Jordie Hein knotted the game at fives with a line drive shot to score Blake Brom from second. Victoria would volley back with three in the ninth and not look back, sending Acadiana to the showers with an 8-5 loss at home.

Acadiana will return to the diamond for their series finale against Victoria tomorrow night at 7:00 PM. With the finish line in sight, the league shifts into gear as each team vies for the final two positions in the post-season tournament. Wednesday games mean FREE admission for all kids who bring an empty Coca-Cola product can or bottle to the box office.
