Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
Sioux Falls, SD - The Sioux Falls Canaries returned home Friday night eager to snap a six-game losing skid but Cleburne played the role of the spoiler with a 7-4 victory at Sioux Falls Stadium.
The Railroaders built a 4-0 lead before Kona Quiggle drove in Wyatt Ulrich with a single in the bottom of the third inning. Cleburne responded with two runs in their half of the fourth and another in the top of the fifth to build a 7-1 advantage. Ozzie Martinez led off with a double in the home half and was driven in on a single from Gavin LaValley.
The score held until the bottom of the ninth. Jabari Henry drove in Martinez with a deep single to left field and Trey Michalczewski scored Quiggle on a sacrifice fly. Sioux Falls would have a chance with the tying run at the plate and two outs but former big leaguer Hunter Cervenka recorded a strikeout to end the rally.
Martinez finished the game 4-5 while Quiggle recorded three hits and an RBI. The Birds are now 5-15 and look to bounce back Saturday night as they take on Cleburne at 6:05pm.
