Canadiens Sign Alexandre Picard to a One-Year Contract

MONTREAL, QC - Montreal Canadiens General Manager Pierre Gauthier announced today the signing of defenceman Alexandre Picard to a one-year, two-way contract (2010-2011). As per club policy, financial terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

Picard, 25, began the 2009-2010 season with the Ottawa Senators before being traded to the Carolina Hurricanes on February 12th. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound defenceman recorded a total of 15 points (four goals, 11 assists) and 26 penalty minutes in 54 games between the two clubs last season. Over the course of five National Hockey League seasons, Picard has played in 193 games recording 57 points (16 goals, 41 assists) and 65 penalty minutes. The native of Gatineau, Quebec has also played in 135 games in the American Hockey League registering 74 points (16 goals, 58 assists) and 115 penalty minutes. Picard was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 3rd round, 85th overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
