Canadians Score Late to Take Game, Series
The Yakima Bears lost 3-2 Monday night to the Vancouver Canadians in British Columbia. The Bears had rallied once to tie the game at 2-2 in the fifth inning, but didn't have another rally in the tank.
The C's jumped on the Bears right away, scoring two runs in the first inning. Bears starter John Pedrotty exited early, as he was taken out after one and two thirds innings on the hill in his professional debut. The lefty gave up a pair of runs in that short time, but also recorded four strikeouts.
The Bears would get back in to the ballgame with a run in the third inning and a run in the fifth inning. Both runs were scored by Zach Jones and both were driven in by Garrett Weber.
While the Bears' offense was busy tying up the game, Greg Robinson was busy shutting down the Canadians. The C's were unable to score a run in Robinson's four and a third innings of work. By the time Robinson left the game, he'd racked up five strikeouts.
After a shutout inning from Evan Marshall, Mike Blake took the hill and got into some trouble. The lefty faced four batters and left with the bases loaded. Although none of the runs scored while he was on the mound, the first batter faced after he left hit a sacrifice fly to left that scored what proved to be the game-winning run. Miles Reagan gave up that sac fly, but the run was charged to Blake, as Reagan retired the two batters he faced.
There was no rally for the Bears in the ninth and Canadians won by the 3-2 final. Philip Brua picked up the win and Drew Permison earned his second save. Mike Blake took the loss for the Bears in his first appearance of the season.
The Canadians have already earned the series win by taking three of the first four games, but there is still one more to be played in the series. Tuesday afternoon at 1:05 the two teams meet for the final time in the regular season at Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium. Right-handed pitcher Randy Hamrick gets the call for the Bears and right-handed pitcher Taylor Cole is slated to start for the Canadians.
