Vancouver Canadians News Release

(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium) - Should the Canadians advance to the 2012 Northwest League Playoffs and face the Everett Aquasox, Friday afternoon's 14-3 blowout victory might give Vancouver a bit more confidence against their West Division rivals.

In front of a sold out Scotiabank Field crowd, the Canadians would pepper Everett LHP Scott DeCecco grabbing five runs off of the starter in the bottom of the 1st inning with CF Dwight Smith Jr. providing the bulk of the offense hitting a three-run triple down the right field line to give Vancouver a 5-0 lead.

After trading runs, Vancouver would blow the game open in the bottom of the 4th inning scoring five more times as 1B Art Charles hit his 4th home run of the summer over the center field fence off of LHP Scott DeCecco that scored 3B Kellen Sweeney (double) to give the Canadians a 11-1 lead.

Everett would pull to within eight runs before the Canadians sealed the game off with a three-run bottom of the 8th inning. Vancouver RF Carlos Ramirez would smack a two-run double to right field off of Everett reliever RHP Brandon Plotz that scored both SS Jason Leblebijian (single) and LF Matt Newman (double) to make the final 14-3.

Canadians RHP Nick Purdy handled his 1st start season well going four innings limiting the Aquasox offense to just a pair of hits while striking out four. RHP Tucker Donahue got the win pitching the 5th inning where he gave up one unearned run. RHP Matt Johnson (2.0IP) and RHP Zack Breault (2.0IP) helped keep the game out of reach for Vancouver.

Notes: With the victory, Vancouver improves to 16-9 (.640) on the second half of the Northwest League season and move 2 1/2 games up on Eugene in the West Division with 14 games remaining... With the win, Vancouver improves to 38-24 (.613) overall and move into a tie for the best record in the Northwest League with Everett through 62 games... Vancouver is now 8-0 (1.000) in their past eight meetings against West Division rivals with series sweeps of Salem-Keizer and Eugene prior to taking the first two games of this current series vs. Everett... The Canadians 14 runs are a season high eclipsing the 12 run mark they tallied in Boise (July 12).
