Lubbock Cotton Kings News Release
LUBBOCK, TX: July 25, 2002 â The Lubbock Cotton Kings of the Central Hockey League are elated to announce the signing of forward Chet Camrud for the 2002/2003 season.
"Camrud is a developmental player with more experience than a normal developmental player," said Cotton Kings head coach/director of hockey operations Bill McDonald. "He is experienced with this league, with Lubbock and with the systems we run."
Camrud (kam-ruhd), a 21 year-old native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, signs with Lubbock after splitting last season between Lubbock and Jr. "A" hockey in Canada. He began last season playing four games with the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League's (Jr. A) Humboldt Broncos before turning professional by joining the Cotton Kings during training camp. With Lubbock, Camrud participated in 16 games and collected 4 points off of 2 goals and 2 assists and collecting 18 penalty minutes. He also battled injuries missing 12 contests, which led to his decision to return to Humboldt to continue his junior season, while he still maintained eligibility.
The 5'8", 220-pound forward played only 2 games with Humboldt after returning from Lubbock and combined his Humboldt totals to 6 goals and 2 assists for 8 points and 49 penalty minutes in 8 games before departing Humboldt once again. This time, Camrud was remaining at the Jr. "A" level, heading east to join the Truro (troor'O) Bearcats of the Maritime Junior Hockey League, where he remained for the remainder of the season. He closed out the Bearcats season with 10 points (4g,6a) in 13 games and collected 3 assists in 7 postseason games. Combining his Jr. "A" season with Humboldt and Truro (located in central Nova Scotia), Camrud tallied 10 goals and 8 assists for 18 points and 135 penalty minutes in 21 games.
If you would like to arrange an interview with either Chet Camrud (he is currently in Saskatchewan), head coach Bill McDonald (currently in Thunder Bay, Ontario) or assistant coach Tracy Egeland, please contact Chris Due at the Cotton Kings office. With 16 professional games played, Camrud qualifies as a rookie/developmental player for the Cotton Kings. His name on the roster gives the âKings their fifth player signed under contract for the 02/03 season joining Dave MacIntyre, Jan Melichercik, Jay Niemiec, and Ryan Olson.
The Cotton Kings are currently preparing for the 2002-2003 season, and their second season in the Central Hockey League. Season ticket information can be attained by calling (806) 747-PUCK, or visiting the Cotton Kings website at www.cottonkings.com.
