San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, Texas --- One of the most prolific hitters from the 2011 San Angelo Colts' lineup is returning to the team this year.
The Colts announced Monday that infielder Landon Camp has re-joined the club after spending most of spring training with the Miami Marlins. Miami purchased Camp's contract from the Colts back on January 18.
"Playing in spring training with the Marlins was one of the coolest experiences of my life," Camp said. "I had never been with an organization before, so I didn't know what to expect. I went in wanting to enjoy myself first and foremost."
Although Camp was released and did not get the opportunity to play a regular season game in the Marlins organization, he views the entire experience in a positive light.
"I am glad I had the chance to tryout, and I hope I get it again," he said. "Regardless of what happened during spring training, I knew I could still play in San Angelo. The whole thing was a win-win situation for me."
Camp is excited to return to the Colts to help try and guide the club to yet another regular season division championship.
"I love playing in San Angelo, and I can't wait to get back," he said.
Last year Camp had a .319 batting average with 24 home runs and 61 RBIs in 63 games. His 24 homers were tied with Ronnie Gaines for third most on the team.
Camp also spent a majority of the 2010 season with the Colts. In 68 games, he hit a career-high .355 with 24 home runs and 68 RBIs.
Camp, 25, began his career in 2009 with the Southern Illinois Miners of the independent Frontier League. Now entering his fourth professional season, Camp has a career .306 average with 53 home runs and 176 RBIs in 214 games.
The San Angelo Colts are a member of the North American Baseball League who will play their 13th season in 2012. Season ticket plans are on sale now, and available at the Colts front office at Foster Field.
