
Camden Riversharks and Long Island Ducks Split Doubleheader

The Riversharks and Long Island Ducks split a doubleheader tonight, with Camden winning game one by a score of 5-4, and Long Island taking game two 6-5. Camden reliever Felix Rodriguez (4-4) picked up the win in game one, as he pitched 1 shutout inning. Long Island starter Jake Dittler (4-7) suffered the loss, as he allowed 7 hits and 5 runs in 6 innings of work.
In game two, Long Island's Joe Valentine (4-2) was credited with the win, as he pitched 2 innings, scattering 6 hits and allowing 3 runs. Camden's Brian Reith (1-1) suffered the loss, as he gave up 2 runs on 2 hits, in just .2 innings of work. With the double header split, the Riversharks' record moves to 20-25, while Long Island's moves to 22-23.

Game 1 Recap The Ducks' bats came out swinging early, as they took a1-0 lead in the first inning. Shortstop Juan Francia led off with a triple down the right field line, and then came around to score on a sacrifice fly by second baseman Ray Navarrete.
The Riversharks did not wait to answer back, as they put up four runs in the 2nd inning and took the lead. An RBI single by third baseman Brian Burgamy scored Jose Leon and Garrett Guzman for the first two runs of the inning. The next batter was Brett Bonvechio, who crushed his fifth homerun of the season, a two run shot to right that made the score 4-1 in favor of the home team.
Long Island pulled back two runs in the 3rd, and cut the Sharks' lead down to one run. A sacrifice fly by left fielder George Lombard plated Navarrete, and then a double by Estee Harris scored Jose Herrera to make the score 4-3. The visitors would go on to tie the game at 4-4 in the fifth inning, courtesy of a solo homerun by Navarrete, his 20th of the season.
Camden broke the tie in the bottom of the 6th and took a 5-4 lead, courtesy of a solo homerun by designated hitter Jose Leon. The homerun was his ninth of the year. With a one run advantage heading into the 7th and final inning of the abridged game, the Sharks put the ball in the hands of closer Tim Bittner, who retired the side in order and picked up his third save of the year.
Game 2 Recap As they did in the first game of the doubleheader, the Ducks scored early in game two. Shortstop Juan Francia started the game off with a solo homerun to right field, his second of the year. Three batters later, Jose Herrera stepped to the plate with two runners aboard and lined a single to right field, scoring Matt Cavagnaro, and giving Long Island an early 2-0 lead.
The Riversharks pulled back a run in the bottom of the inning, courtesy of a sacrifice fly by designated hitter Garrett Guzman. His sixteenth RBI of the season made the score 2-1 in favor of the visitors.
Long Island added another run in the 3rd inning and took a 3-1 lead. An RBI single by left fielder Estee Harris drove in Ray Navarrete. But the Sharks showed their resilience and answered back in the bottom half of the inning. Third baseman Brett Bonvechio drew a bases loaded walk that gave Brian Finegan a free pass home, and cut the Sharks' deficit to one run.
The Ducks bats' struck again in the 4th inning. With two runners in scoring position, Navarrete hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Francia, and giving the visitors a 4-2 lead. The seesaw ride then started, as Camden rallied for three runs in the 5th inning, and took a 5-4 lead. An RBI triple by Chris Walker started the scoring, before RBI singles by Bonvechio and Brian Burgamy gave the Riversharks the lead.
The lead would change hands again in the 6th inning, as the Ducks drove two more runs across the plate. A throwing error by Camden catcher Carlos Dominguez allowed David Housel to score from third base to tie the game. Long Island would then take the lead with and an infield single by Navarrete that plated Francia for the go ahead run.
With a one run lead, the Ducks put the ball in the hands of closer Bill Simas, who retired the side and preserved the 6-5 victory for the visitors. The save was his 21st of the year.
