
Callahan drives in four as Pride beats Diamonds 6-3

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The USSSA Pride beat the Tennessee Diamonds 6-3 Saturday night, their third straight win in the series. A crowd of 608, the largest of the season, jammed every seat for the National Pro Fastpitch game at Draper Diamond on the campus of Lipscomb University.
A three-run home run by Tonya Callahan that bounced off the glove of Diamonds center fielder Amanda Williams and over the fence was the big hit of the second inning. Jessica Mendoza, the hottest hitter in the series, drove in two runs with a single to left.
All nine Pride batters went to the plate in the second inning. The Diamonds countered with three runs in the fourth inning. Amanda Williams dropped a fly into left field for a single that scored Chelsea Spencer who had also reached base on a single to left. DeDe Justice hit the ball to Pride third baseman Andrea Duran who made an errant throw to first allowing Megan Gibson, who had reached base on a fielder's choice, and Williams to score.
The Pride added one run in the sixth when Callahan singled to right to score Amber Flores who had reached base on a single to open the inning. It was the fourth RBI of the game for Callahan.
After Kristin Schnake singled the Diamonds brought in right-hander Becca Heteniak in relief of right-hander Kristin Erb. In 5.1 innings Erb scattered 11 hits and gave up six runs, three earned. She struck out two and did not walk a batter. She falls to 0-2. Heteniak pitched 1.2 innings of shutout softball. She gave up one hit, walked one and struck out one.
Sarah Pauley, 1-2, pitched a complete game for the Pride to get the win. She allowed three hits and three runs, none of them earned. She walked one and struck out five.
The Pride edged the Diamonds 1-0 in nine innings in the first game of the day. The Pride will try to sweep the four-game series Sunday at 2.
