New Jersey Jackals News Release

LITTLE FALLS, NJ—The New Jersey Jackals announced today that two players who were a major part of the team's recent championship success, first baseman Dave Callahan and short stop Chas Terni, have signed contracts to play with affiliated teams in 2003.

Callahan, who batted .265 with 9 home runs, 17 doubles and 42 RBI while playing with New Jersey last season, has signed with the Boston Red Sox organization and is expected to play at Sarasota in the Florida State League. The 23 year-old Callahan, who was the MVP of the Northern League Championship Series last fall, batted .309 with 2 home runs, 3 doubles and 10 RBI in the 2002 post-season. This is his second chance at playing affiliated ball as he also spent four years in the Florida Marlins chain from 1998-2001.

Terni, who was a member of both the 2001 and 2002 Jackals' championship teams, signed with the Milwaukee Brewers where he is expected to play for Beloit in the Midwest League. Last season Terni produced career-high offensive numbers by batting .298 with 10 home runs, 34 doubles and 63 RBI. He led the league in doubles and ranked second in the league in extra-base hits (45). Terni was selected to the Northern League East post-season all star team and was a Baseball America All Independent League second team honoree. Prior to playing with New Jersey, Terni spent four seasons in the Boston Red Sox organization from 1997-2000.

"I am happy that the success we have enjoyed by winning three championships in the last five years has brought attention to the young players, like Dave and Chas, on our team," said Larry Hall, the Jackals general manager. "I have always felt that the talent on the field for the Jackals was major league quality."

The Jackals will open up the 2003 season at Yogi Berra Stadium on May 22nd against the Berkshire Black Bears. Fans interested in ticket information can log on to www.jackals.com or call (973) 746-7434.
