Central Valley Coyotes News Release
Behind a college career spotted by injuries you will find a receiver that holds four all-time records in Cal Bear football history named Geoff McArthur (6'1 200). He is Cal's All-Time Reception Leader (202), he has the Most Receptions in a Single Game (16), he is the school's Career Receiving Yardage Leader (3,188), he's had the Most Receiving Yards in a Single Season (1,504) and he has been assigned, by the af2 league office, to the Central Valley Coyotes for the 2007 season.
He finished his college career at Cal with 202 receptions, 3,188 yards, 15.8 yards per catch, 20 touchdowns and 11 100 yard receiving games. His college career ended in 2004 while blocking downfield a teammate rolled up on the back of his knee and put an end to his record setting college career. Before the injury he caught 57 passes for 862 yards and 7 TD's but that injury caused McArthur to get bypassed in the 2005 NFL Draft.
"Before his injury Geoff was a first day NFL Draft prospect," stated Coyote Head Coach Fred Biletnikoff Jr. "In my opinion his career numbers out weigh his past injuries. His 2003 season alone make him the most credentialed wide receiver that has ever signed with us. He may be the most credentialed receiver to ever sign with this league, I don't know."
Going into the 2003 season, McArthur's statistics at Cal included 60 receptions, 822 yards, 13.7 yards per reception and 3 touchdowns. His injuries between 2000 and 2002 include a thumb injury, a hamstring injury, and a lacerated tricep in a non-football related accident. In 2003, McArthur blistered opposing defenses for 150 yards or more receiving five times and cleared the 100-yard barrier in seven games. He established himself as one of the premier receivers in the nation with 85 receptions for 1,504 yards, and 10 TD's, averaging 17.7 yards per catch. He also was second in the nation, behind Pittsburgh's Larry Fitzgerald, with 115.7 receiving yards per game. The highlight of McArthur's 2003 season was the "Big Game" against Stanford where he tallied 16 receptions for 245 yards and 2 touchdowns. After his performance McArthur was named "Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Week". He was Cal's "Most Valuable Player", he earned second team All Pac-10, and was named second team All American Honors from The Sporting News and SportsIllustrated.com. That year he was also named the "College Male Athlete of the Year" by the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame. But a broken arm in a "freak accident", in a non-contact practice while preparing for the Insight Bowl vs. Virginia Tech ended his record breaking season.
On signing with the Coyotes McArthur said, "I'm thankful for opportunity to get on the field again and get back in a team environment. I've missed the competition, being part of the team chemistry and working toward same goal."
Prior to his college career, this Lynwood CA native and a Palisades High School graduate, finished his senior year leading the nation with an amazing 1,779 receiving yards, while his 91 catches ranked fourth nationally, he also had 28 touchdown receptions.
