North Shore Navigators News Release

Nahant, MA- The North Shore Navigators are sticking with their man as General Manager Bill Terlecky announced late Monday afternoon that Manager Jon Cahill will return to manage the Navigators for the 2015 season. The managerial announcement comes just weeks after Cahill was named to the Peabody High School Hall of Fame.

"We are extremely excited to have Jon back at the helm of this ball club," said Terlecky. "Jon is a proven leader on and off the field and we are confident that he is the right person to manage our team as we strive to bring a championship back home to Fraser Field."

Cahill's Navigators struggled in the early part of the 2014 season but were able to turn up the heat and make a late post-season run before eventually falling a half-game short of the playoffs, despite winning 8 of their last 10 games. They finished the season with a record of 26-29, which landed them in third place in the East Division.

"I am very excited to return to the Navgiators for another season," said Cahill. "We fell short of our goal this season but we will come back ready to compete for the FCBL title in 2015."

Cahill, born and raised in Peabody, graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell in 2001. At UMass Lowell, Cahill played four years of baseball, where he was an essential part of the 2001 Riverhawks team that reached the Division II Collegiate World Series for the first time in school history. Cahill was also inducted into the UMass Lowell Athletics Hall of Fame in 2008.

Upon graduation, Cahill signed as an undrafted free agent infielder with the Los Angeles Angels organization, where he spent three seasons reaching as high as Double-A. Cahill also spent two seasons with the Washington Wildthings, an independent team from the Frontier League. Cahill ended his professional career with a batting average of .268 and a fielding percentage well over .960.

Aside from experience in the game of baseball, Cahill brings many years of coaching to the Navigators. Cahill was a hitting coach for two years for independent league teams before serving as a manager for the Traverse City (Mich.) Beach Bums for two seasons. In his final season as manager, Cahill led the Beach Bums to a second place finish, giving up the least amount of runs by any team throughout the season. Cahill currently serves as the assistant coach at Endicott College.
