North Shore Navigators News Release
Lynn, Massachusetts -- The North Shore Navigators have announced that manager Jon Cahill will return to manage the team in 2014. The announcement came on Thursday afternoon by general manager Bill Terlecky.
This season, the Navigators started off extremely hot as they won 8 of their first 10 games, including the first six games of the season. Despite numerous injuries to the pitching staff early in the season, including injuries to both Joe Gruntkosky (St. Joe's Maine) and Ryley MacEachern (Stony Brook), who were regarded as the pre-season aces of the rotation, Cahill was still able to lead the Navs to a regular season record of 26-25, which landed them in third place in the FCBL. The Navigators saw their season end when they lost to the Brockton Rox in a one-game playoff game.
"Jon is the best person for the job," said Terlecky. "Jon's commitment to the organization and his familiarity with the position really left us with no discussion needed. We are confident that with Jon at the helm, we are in a great position to come back strong and compete for a championship."
Cahill is a graduate of Peabody Veterans Memorial High School (1996) and the Bridgton (ME) Academy in 1997. From Bridgton, Cahill went to UMASS-Lowell where he made First Team All-American in 2001, as well as being named the school's co-male athlete of the year (along with current NHL defenseman Ron Hainsey). He was also named the NE-10 Conference MVP as he led the Riverhawks to their first ever College World Series appearance. He played professionally for 5 seasons -- 3 with the Anaheim Angels organization and 2 with the Washington Wild Things of the Independent Frontier League. In 2004, he was a Frontier League All-Star and was named to the Wild Things All-Decade Team in 2012. In addition to his duties of recruiting and coaching for the Navigators, he also serves as the assistant baseball coach at Endicott College in Beverly, MA.
"First off I would like to thank Pat Salvi, Pete Laven, Beth Hefferenan, Bill Terlecky, and the rest of Salvi Sports for the opportunity to continue coaching the Navigators," said Cahill. "I love managing baseball and all the strategic elements that come with each game. I had a great experience this past season, and next season, I will look to build on the success we had this year in an attempt to bring home a championship to the city of Lynn."
