Bush Paves the Way for Asheville's Fifth Shutout Win

Asheville Tourists News Release
ASHEVILLE - McCormick Field was not a hitter friendly ballpark on Wednesday night. The Asheville Tourists shut out the Greenville Drive 1-0 in a game where both pitching staffs brought their best stuff. The shutout victory was Asheville's fifth of the year.
Nick Bush was the superstar of the night. Asheville's left-handed starting pitcher tossed a season-high seven innings and never seemed to be in trouble. Bush allowed only two hits, walked one and struck out seven. The southpaw finished out his day by striking out four of the last five batters he faced and retired the final eight hitters he saw.
When Bush departed the Tourists handed the baseball to Jake Bird. The reliever picked up right where the starter left off. Bird tossed a scoreless eighth inning before PJ Poulin came in to finish the job. Poulin completed the shutout and earned his third save of the season in the process.
The lone run of the game came in the blink of an eye. With two outs and the bases empty in the bottom of the fifth, LeeMarcus Boyd hit a single off the wall in right-centerfield. On the next pitch, Daniel Montano crushed a double over the head of Greenville's centerfielder and Boyd raced around the bases to score.
The Tourists finished with seven hits compared to only three from the Drive. Montano collected three hits and Terrin Vavra added two. Greenville had a runner reach second base one time in the game. That runner was there for only one pitch before Bush brought the Tourists back to the plate.
Asheville continues their homestand against Greenville on Thursday night and the Tourists will transform into the Hippies. The first pitch is slated for 7:05pm.
