FC Dallas News Release
DALLAS â The Dallas Burn announced today that the team has traded forward Jason Thompson to DC United for a conditional pick in the 2005 MLS SuperDraft and a fourth round pick in the 2006 draft.
Thompson, 22, was selected by the Burn in the second round of the 2003 MLS SuperDraft. Just one day after being drafted, he suffered a torn ACL in his right knee while training with the United States U-23 National Team and spent the entire 2003 season rehabbing his knee. He made his MLS debut earlier this month, playing the final minute vs. Columbus on July 10.
"This is a good opportunity for Jason," said Burn Head Coach Colin Clarke. "We have four very good strikers here that are ahead of him on the depth chart so it was difficult for him to get playing time. DC made what we felt was a good offer. It opens up a roster spot for us and gives us a draft pick next year which is important since it's an expansion year. We thank Jason for everything he's given the team and wish him the best of luck in DC."
The Burn returns to action on Saturday, July 24 as they host DC United at 7:30 p.m. at the Cotton Bowl.
