Amarillo, TX - Two powerplay goals and a perfect night on the penalty kill propelled the Amarillo Bulls to 4-2 home victory over the Corpus Christi IceRays on Friday night.

The IceRays wasted little time in sending a message to Amarillo that they were ready to redeem themselves from last Saturday's overtime loss to Topeka, when Ryan Coughlin tucked home a trickling puck for the opening goal just 1:17 into the contest.

The Bulls quickly shook off the IceRays' lead and found a number of scoring chances shortly after. The biggest explosion of chances came after the mid-period media timeout, as the Bulls threw a plethora of quality chances toward Corpus Christi's Cal Sandquist.

Very soon after, Jordan Venegoni turned a bouncing puck on net that was initially stopped by Sandquist and then trickled through the pads to tie the game at 1-1. The two teams would take that score line into the intermission.

Out of the intermission, Amarillo quickly earned a powerplay and capitalized when Lauri Sertti threw a shot on net that was deflected past Sandquist by the stick of Niclas Puikkonen, who tallied his third of the season.

After the go-ahead goal, the two teams shifted their attention to upping the amount of physicality during the second frame, recording hit after hit on opposing players. The two teams would be unable to find any more offense in the period and head to the third with a 2-1 Amarillo lead.

The powerplay continued its success when, just 2:14 into the third period, Sertti tallied the Bulls' second man-advantage goal on a long shot from just inside the blue line.

After Max Gutjahr continued to make save after save on the IceRays' comeback efforts, Nick Trela took a between-the-legs pass from Jonathan Young and sniped the puck past Sandquist to give the Bulls the 4-1 lead.

Corpus Christi would earn one of the three goals they trailed back after Cole Golden tucked home his second of the year, but it was too late for the IceRays to overcome the deficit.

Gutjahr would go on to stop 27 of 29 between the pipes for the Bulls and picked up his fifth win of the season.

The Bulls will remain in the Budweiser Bullpen on Saturday, November 2 to take on the Corpus Christi IceRays in the final game of the home stand. Mark Shelley will broadcast the game from the Spicy Mike's Bar-B-Q Broadcast Booth, and the action will begin at 7:05PM CST on 107.1 Nash Icon and Hockey TV.
