Amarillo Bulls News Release

Amarillo,Tx - The Amarillo Bulls were proud to host and honor local veterans and their families for today's matchup against the Lone Star Brahmas.

The festivities included a hometown hero dropping the puck, shoutouts for those veterans and families in attendance, and a heartfelt video tribute to our local heroes.

Cal Sandquist made his first start of the season for the Bulls as Amarillo looked to split the weekend series with Lone Star. The Brahmas got on the board early with a Mitchell Digby power play goal just 58 seconds into the game. After the quick start for Lone Star, the Bulls picked up their offensive play throwing 11 shots on goal but the Lone Star goalie Burke stopped all 11.

Nicholas Niemo scored his second goal of the weekend series early in the second to open up a two goal Brahmas advantage. Moments later, Harrison Scott would set up defenseman Casey Roepke for his first goal of the season to make the score two to one. The score would stay into the third period.

With eight minutes gone in the third, Cooper Fensterstock would show off his speed with a breakaway goal on Burke to tie the game at two in the third period. Amarillo would pepper more shots on Burke the remainder of the third but the stalemate would result in overtime and at least a point for both teams.

In the overtime frame, both Burke and Sandquist made outstanding saves to push the game to a shootout. The first four rounds of the shootout saw no goals but in the Brahmas turn of the fifth attempt, Stefan Miklakos would score and Burke made the game clinching save on Fensterstock to give Lone Star their third win on the season.

Scott picked up the lone assist for the Bulls this afternoon. Roepke and Fensterstock both scored their first goal of the 2020-21 season. Sandquist made 19 saves on his 21 shots faced and saved four of the five shootout attempts faced.

The Bulls will be back in action next Friday as they take on the Odessa Jackalopes on Friday Nov. 6 and Saturday Nov. 7th at 7:15 CST at Ector County Coliseum in Odessa,Tx. The next home game for Amarillo is Wed Nov. 25th against the Jackalopes.
