Bulls Fall to Wildcats 4-2

AMARILLO, TX - An eight game home stand didn't start the way the Amarillo Bulls had hoped on Friday night at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.

The Bulls surrendered two third period goals and dropped a 4-2 decision to the Wichita Falls Wildcats. It was the Bulls sixth loss in a row and second home in their last three home games. The Wildcats took over first place in the South with the win and moved two-points ahead of the Bulls which are alone in second. The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees were beaten by the Corpus Christi IceRays.

Matt Sieckhaus and Mike Davis netted the Bulls goals. Collin Delia stopped 30 of 34 shots to take the loss. David Zevnick played well in goal for Wichita Falls, making some key saves to the keep the Bulls off the score sheet including several partial breakaways in the middle stanza.

It was a good start to the game for the Amarillo Bulls as they tallied the first goal. Matt Sieckhaus scored off his own rebound from Tim Moore and Mitchell McPherson at the 4:07 mark. Nine minutes later, the Wildcats tied the game on a 2-on-1 break up the ice. Each team had two power plays and the Bulls led the shot total 12-9.

In the second, it was the Bulls with the better of the scoring chances, including breakaways by Carter Penzien, Brendan McGuire and Roman Ammirato. The Bulls took a 2-1 lead when Mike Davis converted a chance from Tyler Gernhofer at 15:47. However, just before the end of the stanza the Wildcats rallied and pull even converting on a rebound in front of the net. The Amarillo Bulls outshot Wichita Falls 15-13 through 40 minutes of play.

The Bulls had the lone power plays of the third period and it was the first one that the visiting Wildcats took advantage of and tallied shorthanded. Amarillo pulled its goaltender in the final 90 seconds looking to get the equalizer but couldn't finish off a couple of chances in front of the net.

The shots on goal favored the Amarillo Bulls 37-34 despite being outshot 12-10 in the final 20 minutes.

Penalty killing was solid for both teams with neither team able to score in a combined 10 chances.

The Amarillo Bulls and the Wichita Falls Wildcats play a second time tomorrow (Saturday) night at 7 pm at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. It's Teddy Bear Toss Night and fans are encouraged to bring a new or gently used Teddy Bear or Stuffed Animal to the game. When the Bulls score their first goal, throw the toys onto the ice. Toys For Tots will be selling Teddy Bears at the game.
