Amarillo Bulls News Release
TOPEKA, KS - The Amarillo Bulls surrendered three goals in the first 25 minutes of the game and dropped a 4-2 decision to the Topeka RoadRunners on Thursday Night at the Kansas Expo Center-Landon Arena.
It was the Bulls last regular season road game before the playoffs. Amarillo finishes with 18 wins away from home including a winning record of 3-2-1 in Topeka.
Gregg Gruehl started in goal for Amarillo and played extremely well to keep his team in the game and chance for the third-period comeback. The Bulls fired everything they had going into the final stanza, but couldn't get the equalizer. Several players had tremendous scoring chances but either put them over top or wide of the target. The RoadRunners added an empty net goal in the final 45 seconds to round out the scoring.
The Bulls opened the scoring at the 7:18 mark of the first period when Eric Millisor took a poor clear by goaltender Eric Rohrkemper and put it into the empty net. The Topeka RoadRunners would tie the game 1-1 with a power play goal, and then take the lead with an even strength marker. The RoadRunners outshot the Bulls 14-3.
In the second period Topeka jumped out to a 3-1 advantage on a shot from the face-off circle. The Bulls got that goal back when Brooks Behling scored on a sharp angle play from TJ Sarcona at 5:42. It was a solid second period for the Bulls as they outworked their opponent and came close to tying the game up.
Topeka outshot Amarillo 27-20, including 22-12 in the first 40 minutes of play. There were six power plays in the game with the Bulls going 0 for 2 and Topeka was 1 for 4.
The Amarillo Bulls host the Texas Tornado on Saturday at 7 pm on Street Scion Fan Appreciation Night. Fans can register for a chance to shoot to win a brand new car. There will also be an opportunity for fans to register to win game worn jerseys in an Amarillo first called 'Jerseys Off Our Back.'
