March 10, 2019 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Amarillo Bulls News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX - The Amarillo Bulls brought their 'A' Game and Response at NYTEX Sports Center in North Richland Hills, TX on Saturday night.
Three consecutive power play goals lifted the visiting Bulls past the Lone Star Brahmas 5-1 for a split in the weekend series. It could be seen early on that Rocky Russo's charges brought a different mind set and work ethic to the rink in the contest, controlling the play from the outset on both the offensive and defensive side of the play. The Brahmas were only able to register nine shots on goal in the contest including none in the final 20 minutes.
Brenden Datema scored twice for the Bulls, Logan Jenuwine, Gabriel Seger and Jason Brancheau had the others. Seger and Trey Bagwell each had two assists, while Justin Evenson posted the win in goal. Jenuwine scored his 48th of the season which put him into a tie with Chris Brooks for the all-time lead in goal scoring in a single season for an Amarillo Hockey Player professional or junior.
That goal by Jenuwine got the offense started early in the first period as he rifled a shot into the top corner past goaltender Seth Eisele. A short time later, it was Gabriel Seger who found a loose puck in the goal crease area and was able to put it into the back of the net for a 2-0 lead at the intermission break.
The Brahmas trimmed the lead to 2-1 early in the second period when Joey Baez scored just after the Bulls had killed off a penalty. But the leadership of the Bulls pushed through the remainder of the stanza, and the power play caught fire as Brenden Datema scored on a quick shot past the blocker of goaltender Eisele to restore the two goal advantage.
In the third period, it was all Bulls via the special teams capitalizing on a five-minute power play with two goals less than 30 seconds apart. Jason Brancheau and Datema found the back of the net with assists provided by Jake Willets, Louis Helsen, Trey Bagwell and Gabriel Seger.
The Bulls outshot the Brahmas 20-9 including a 5-0 margin in the final stanza.
The Amarillo Bulls return to home ice next Friday, Mar. 15 and Saturday, Mar. 16 versus the Odessa Jackalopes at 7 pm. Friday - Billet/Host Families will be honored prior to the game. It's also the return of the Family-4-Pack (four tickets, hour hotdogs and four sodas) $54 and the Bring-A-Bud Pack (two tickets, two hotdogs and two sodas) $27. Saturday - Amarillo Youth Hockey Night where the Bulls will wear special jerseys and a live auction to follow immediately after the game. Player Parents will also be honored prior to puck drop.
