Durham, NC- Carlos Reyes pitched seven shutout innings and Chad Mottola homered to lead the Durham Bulls to a 3-2 victory over the Syracuse SkyChiefs on Thursday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The win snaps the Bulls five-game losing streak and improves their record at home to 10-3.
Reyes (3-1) picked up the victory after allowing just three hits over seven innings. He fanned three and walked one. RHP Lee Gardner picked up his sixth save despite allowing two runs (earned) and two hits in the ninth inning.
Mottola went 2-for-4 including a solo home run in the second inning to give the Bulls an early lead. Jorge Fabregas added two hits and scored the Bulls' second run on Scott Neuberger's eighth-inning single. Hector Ortiz followed with a single to score Neuberger and give the Bulls a 3-0 lead.
Tony Zuniga hit a two-run home run in the ninth inning to account for the SkyChiefs runs. Howie Clark went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored and Reed Johnson went 1-for-4 with a double.
RHP Doug Linton (1-2) took the defeat for the SkyChiefs despite allowing just one run (earned) and four hits over six innings.
