San Francisco Bulls News Release
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The San Francisco Bulls Professional Hockey Team, proud affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, announced today they have acquired the rights of defenseman Russ Sinkewich from the Gwinnett Gladiators. The acquisition completes the trade that sent Justin Bowers and the rights of Sacha Guimond to Gwinnett in January. Sinkewich will play for the Bulls next season if he is in the ECHL.
"We've picked up a big, strong defensive defenseman," said Bulls President/Head Coach Pat Curcio. "We're glad to have Russ in our lineup next season if he doesn't play in the AHL. He will be a big boost to our defensive core."
Sinkewich, 27, has split his first four seasons of pro hockey between the American Hockey League and ECHL. In 2012-13, the 6-foot, three-inch, Westlake, Ohio native finished the season in the AHL with the Portland Pirates, earning four assists in 21 games. He also totaled nine points (3 goals, 6 assists) in 34 games between the Alaska Aces and Gwinnett. In 62 total AHL games with the Lake Erie Monsters, Milwaukee Admirals, Abbotsford Heat, Bridgeport Sound Tigers and Portland, Sinkewich has registered six assists and 47 penalty minutes. In 185 career games in the ECHL with the Johnstown Chiefs, Alaska and Gwinnett, he has totaled 39 points (9 goals, 30 assists) and 239 penalty minutes. Prior to turning pro, Sinkewich played four seasons with Bowling Green State University, earning five assists and 131 penalty minutes in 95 games.
