Orlando Rays News Release
Birmingham, ALA - The bats came alive, the starting pitcher gave Orlando six strong innings, and the defense committed only one error. Despite everything going right for the Rays, the Birmingham Barons managed to reach the Rays' bullpen for three runs over the final two innings, lifting the Barons to a 5-4 win over Orlando Tuesday.
O-Rays starter Doug Waechter gave Orlando another solid outing, surrendering only two unearned runs on three hits over 6.0 IP. Walks did reliever Bartolome Fortunato (0-2) in, as he allowed two earned runs on just one hit but surrendered four free passes in just 1.2 IP.
Gabby Martinez did his best to spark the Rays' dormant offense, going 3-5 with a double and two stolen bases out of the leadoff spot. Chairon Isenia drove in a piar of runs for the Rays, who dropped their fifth straight. The Rays offense, which struggled over the last three games against Mobile, pounded out 10 hits but also stranded nine runners.
The series continues tomorrow at noon ET, as the Rays send righty Jim Magrane (2-1, 7.53) to the mound.
