Buffalo, NY - The New Jersey Storm (3-11) dropped a 19-12 decision to the National Lacrosse League-leading Buffalo Bandits (12-3) tonight in front of 7,967 at the HSBC Arena. Bufalo forward and the NLL's leading scorer John Tavares scored five goals and added two assists to lead the Bandits to their League-best 12th victory of the season.
Storm captain Steve Sombrotto led New Jersey with five points (4G, 1A). Forwards Roy Colsey (3G, 3A) and Marc Morley (2G, 1A) added multi-point games for the Storm.
Storm net minder Derek General suffered the loss despite stopping an impressive 54 shots while across the turf Steve Dietrich recorded the victory with 45 saves. Buffalo got off an amazing 101 shots in the game. Storm goalie Ginny Capicchioni made her second appearance of the season on the active roster, but did not see game action.
With the loss, the Storm drops the season series to the Bandits after losing 10-4 at home on January 19. The club remains in third place in the Eastern Division behind the Colorado Mammoth while Buffalo stays atop the Central Division.
The Storm returns to action Saturday, April 12 when they take on the New York Saints on Long Island at 7:30 p.m. The Storm will be looking for the series sweep over New York after downing the Saints 19-9 on January 10 at the Continental Airlines Arena.
