Atlanta Silverbacks News Release

ATLANTA, GA - The Atlanta Silverbacks placed three players on the USL-1 Weekly Best 11 this week. The Silverbacks went on a four-game unbeaten streak before falling to the Vancouver Whitecaps this past Sunday by a score of 2-3.

Scott Buete, Ansu Toure, and Macoumba Kandji all earned spots on the team this week. Buete's play in the midfield helped pace the Atlanta offense that scored 12 goals in the past five games. On Sunday, the 2007 Atlanta Silverbacks MVP recorded two assists against Vancouver.

Meanwhile, Toure has proven himself to be lethal on the flanks this season. His efforts against the Whitecaps paid off, as he ended up scoring two goals in the first half; Toure slammed a ball off the crossbar, crossing the plane of the goal for the first score. His second goal came after a slick cutback inside the box, setting himself up for the putaway.

Kandji, who leads the league in points and goals, was named to the Weekly Best 11 for the second straight week. Last week, he was honored as the Player of the Week. Kandji was able to score a beautiful goal and set up another in Atlanta's 3-2 victory over Vancouver at home this past Tuesday.

As well, Kandji earned Goal of the Week honors from the USL for his outstanding individual effort against Vancouver this past week.

After receiving a ball from midfielder Buete, Kandji danced around and plowed through several Whitecap defenders before poking a ball past goalkeeper Jay Nolly.

A brief highlight of the dazzling goal can be seen by here on YouTube.

This is the second time Kandji has been honored for a goal in his career. He won the Goal of the Week award against the Puerto Rico Islanders in 2007 in his second career start.

The Silverbacks will next face the Charleston Battery on Saturday, August 16th at home in a Southern Derby Cup fixture. For tickets or more information, please call 1-866-GO-BACKS or visit www.atlantasilverbacks.com.
