MONTREAL - The Montreal Impact (6-9-4; 22 points) is facing Wednesday the Rochester Rhinos (7-7-8; 29 points) at Saputo Stadium (7:30 pm, CKAC Sports, THE TEAM 990, USLlive.com).
This is the third and final matchup between both clubs this season. In the first game on July 25 in Rochester the two teams tied 1-1. Less than 48 hours later, the Impact was shut out 2-0 by the Rhinos at Saputo Stadium.
"We definitely want to take our revenge. In the last game, we completely missed an opportunity so we want to offer a better performance Wednesday," said midfielder Patrick Leduc. "We did great in the first game in Rochester by playing the ball on the ground and by moving it quickly. We shouldn't try to play in the air because they have strong players who are good on aerial balls. It's in our best interest to find more movement on the field."
"We don't want to repeat the same errors that we made in the last game against them," said Impact head coach John Limniatis. "When we play well, like we did in the majority of our games this season, we always have a good chance to win. The best thing we can do is score goals because it helps everything else on the field. We have to collect as many points as possible and we have another chance on Wednesday."
In its last game on Friday in Cary, the Impact shut out the RailHawks 2-0. Forward Severino Jefferson (11th minute) and midfielder Pato Aguilera (90th) scored in that win.
With another win Wednesday, the Impact would move up to 8th place in the USL First Division standings.
"It's important for us to get a good result at home and start to show our dominance here," said midfielder David Testo. "With a couple of wins we could move up in the standings and we've got that in the back of our minds, so each game is very important. Every point is critical now. We need to get good results against the teams in front of us."
Since the Rhinos' arrival in the league in 1996, the Impact has a record of 24-14-6 against its rivals from Rochester. At home, the Impact has a record of 17-2-2 (34GF - 6GA) against Rochester.
Wednesday is the Fan Appreciation Game. All tickets are available for $10 ($5 youth 16 and under) and hot dogs will be sold for $1.
The game against the Rhinos was supposed to be played September 3 but has been moved to Wednesday because on September 2 the Impact will be playing the second game of a home-and-away series against Real Esteli FC, the Nicaraguan champion team, in the CONCACAF Champions League.
