Bucks Win Fourth Straight: Sting Bees 4-2

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 4-2 Thursday night, in front of 4,527 fans at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The Bucks picked up their fourth straight win, and moved four points ahead of the Killer Bees in the Southeast Division with a 9-4 record (18pts). Both of the Bees (6-2-2) regulation losses this season are against the Bucks.

Rick Kozak scored one goal and handed out an assist to lead the Bucks, who got goals from four different players. Sebastien Centomo stopped 25 shots to improve to 7-3 in net this season for Laredo.

The Bucks (7-2 at home) scored first tenth time this season, as they struck with 9:17 left in the first period. Rick Kozak played the puck from the left side boards, then skated past two Bee defenders and wristed a shot past Wylie Rogers from right in front of the crease. Kozak tallied his fourth goal of the campaign, with Jeff Bes (18) picking up the assist.

Laredo would strike a little over four minutes later on the power-play with 5:03 left in the period. Team Captain Serge Dube sent a laser slap from the top of the right circle past Rogers, to pick up his fourth tally of the season.

The Bucks outshot the Killer Bees 10-9 in the first 20 minutes.

The Killer Bees (1-2 on the road) would score two straight goals in a span of seven minutes to tie the game at 2-2. Robin Bouchard scored off of a long rebound from the high slot past Sebastien Centomo to cut the Bucks lead in half to 2-1. The tally was number 559 in Bouchard's career, and fourth of the season. With 6:24 remaining in the period Trevor Weisgerber broke past the Bucks defense and beat Centomo to tie the game at two apiece.

Just 30 seconds later the Bucks would re-take the lead at 3-2, when Alex Goupil took a drop pass from Bobby Russell just inside the Bees zone, and flicked the shot past Rogers and into the back of the net. The strike was Goupil's team-leading ninth goal of the season, with Russell picking up his sixth helper of the campaign.

The Bucks once again outshot the Bees in the second period, this time by a count of 16-10.

Laredo would go up 4-2 with 4:56 left in the third, when Darryl Smith tipped in a loose puck past Rogers, to pick up his ninth goal of the season. Both Smith and Goupil have nine goals on the year.

Rogers set aside 32 shots in net for the Killer Bees.

The Bucks outshot the Killer Bees 36-27.

The Bucks became the first U.S pro hockey team to wear Mexican Themed Jersey's on Thursday night, as well as accepting the Peso at the ticket window.
