New Mexico Scorpions News Release

[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-As the Scorpions prepare to host Arizona for two games this weekend, head coach Randy Murphy has executed a trade. Ben Chaisson was acquired from Tulsa for future considerations.

Chaisson, 21, is expected to join the team in time for Friday's game against the Sundogs. The defenseman played in nine games for the Oilers this season and has collected 49 penalty minutes while still looking for his first professional point.

"It is exciting to be with a team that really wants me as part of their plans," said Chaisson. "I am a physical, defensive-minded defenseman who is not afraid to go into the corners and be a physical presence on the ice."

The past four seasons Chaisson spent paying in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. In 185 games the 6'4", 195-pounder scored 10 points (1G, 9A) and amassed 394 penalty minutes.

"Ben is automatically an upgrade for our team in toughness," said Murphy. "He is a young, eager kid with good size that should fit well into our plans."

To make room on the roster the Scorpions have released defenseman Corey Courchene. In 14 games Courchene scored three goals and an assist.
