LAREDO, TX: The Laredo Bucks, of the Central Hockey League, defeated the Bloomington Blaze 6-3.
The Laredo Bucks faced the Bloomington Blaze for the first and only time on Sunday afternoon at the Laredo Energy Arena. The Bucks were hot off a 5-0 shut-out over the Americans Saturday night
The Bucks and Blaze came out firing the puck during the first period. The Blaze were the first on the board, when Pacha scored at 7:20. Matt Boyd evened the score for the Bucks at 8:29. Neil Trimm and Erik Boisvert assisted on the goal. Erik Boisvert gave the Bucks a 2-1 lead, when he buried a one-timer from the point at 13:24. Matt Boyd and Neil Trimm had helpers on the goal. The Blaze battled back and Jason Dale scored 2 goals for Bloomington late in the period to give them a 3-2 lead. The Bucks were outshot by the Blaze 11-9 in the first.
The teams were transitioning the puck quite a bit in the second period. Greg Moore trickled the puck past the goalie at 7:47 to tie the game 3-3. Neil Trimm and Matt Boyd once again assisted on the goal. The Bucks went on two straight powerplays late in the second, but were unable to take advantage of the extra skater. A.J. Hau scored with only 23 seconds left in the frame to give the Bucks a 4-3 lead to end the period. Rusty Masters and Ryan Sparling assisted on the goal. Both teams had 11 shots on goal during the middle frame.
The Bucks dominated the third period of play. The Bucks expanded their lead at 7:07 when Ryan Sparling lit the lamp on an odd-man rush to give the Bucks a 5-3 lead. Rusty Masters and Adam Rivet assisted on the goal. Trevor Hunt put the final blow to the Blaze when he tapped in the rebound that was sitting on the goal line at 13:25. Matt Boyd and Neil Trimm once again had assists on the goal, giving the Bucks a commanding 6-3 lead. The Bucks outshot the Blaze 13-9 during the final period.
The Laredo Bucks visit the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees on Tuesday, before returning home for a three game homestand. The Bucks will be in action Friday, March 2nd Saturday, March 3rd against the Allen Americans. The puck drops at 7:30pm for both games. On Sunday March 4th, the Bucks will face the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. The puck will drop at 4pm. The Laredo Bucks will be hosting a watch party at Hal's Landing on Tuesday, February 28th. The Bucks will take on their rivals the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. The puck drops at 7pm.

The Laredo Bucks will be hosting a book drive on Friday, March 2nd (Dr. Seuss' Birthday)! The Bucks are encouraging all fans to bring any new or gently used books to the game.
