Laredo Bucks News Release
(6/10/03) Rookie left wing Jonah Leroux (pronunciation: "Le-ROO") has signed a contract to return to the Laredo Bucks for the 2003-2004 season. Leroux posted two goals and three assists in eleven playoff games during the Bucks' run to the Southern Conference Finals. In Game Three of the series against Austin, Leroux scored his first professional goal at 15:48 of overtime, giving the Bucks a 4-3 win and a 2-1 series lead.
Head Coach/General Manager Terry Ruskowski says, "When Jonah came in, his reputation wasn't that of a goal-scorer, but he came in and scored two very important goals for us in the playoffs. He's a great skater, he's fast and he shoots the puck very hard. The only thing he has to work on is his confidence when he has the puck. He's astute, he wants to learn and he wants to get better, and that's the kind of kid I like to work with. He's a very good addition to this hockey team, there's no question."
Leroux is a twenty-year old native of Williamstown, Ontario. The 6-1, 200-pound left wing completed a five-year career in the Ontario Hockey League with stops in Oshawa, Brampton, Ottawa and Sudbury. Leroux's most successful season came with the Ottawa 67's in 2001-2002, when he notched eleven goals and 28 assists in 52 games. In the playoffs, he added five goals and four assists in 13 contests.
The Laredo Bucks are the 2002-2003 CHL Franchise of the Year! The team's success story was chronicled by CBS News in a special report on June 1. The only way to guarantee a seat for Year Two of professional hockey in Laredo is to become a Laredo Bucks season ticketholder.
