Laredo Bucks News Release
LAREDO, Texas â Tomorrow night the Laredo Bucks will honor the Nixon Mustangs football team at the Laredo Entertainment Center when the Bucks host the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. Face-off is set for 7:30 p.m at the LEC. For tickets or more information call (956) 718-BUCKS (2825) or go online at www.laredobucks.com.
Nixon is the three time defending District 30-5A champions. The Mustangs beat Corpus Christi-Moody last weekend 19-7 in a bi-district contest. Nixon (10-1) will host Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North (10-1) in an area playoff game this Friday night at Shirley Field. If the Mustangs win this weekend they will advance to the regional quarterfinals.
"We want the community to come out and support the Laredo teams," said Sylvia Barrera, Director of Athletics for LISD. "I think that community support is so important for any team and it's very important for these student-athletes to know that the community is behind them. Once you get this far into the playoffs you aren't just carrying the Nixon banner, you are carrying the Laredo banner."
The Nixon Cheerleaders will be present along with the Mustangs mascot. The Nixon ROTC, under the direction of commanding officer William Azbill, will present the colors at the game for the national anthem.
"We want all the people who come to the game tomorrow night to wear Nixon Mustangs green and gold," said Bucks Game Director Mario Mecaroni. "We want this to be a pep rally to support the Mustangs and get people excited for the Nixon playoff game this Friday night."
Mustangs head coach Joel Lopez, school principal Sylvia Rios and four selected Mustangs players will drop the ceremonial first puck.
