LAREDO, Texas – The defending CHL Champion Laredo Bucks set a franchise record and tied a CHL record with SEVEN power play goals in an 8-2 win over the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees in front of 5,948 fans at the Laredo Entertainment Center. Forward Adam Paiement had a hat trick plus forward Jeff Bes and defenseman Phillippe Lauze each added a pair. The Bucks, second in the Southeast division, have won six straight games and improve to 12-9-1 with 25 points. The Bucks are on the road in Corpus Christi against the Rayz on Saturday at the AmericanBank Center. Laredo returns home to the LEC on Sunday, December 26th against the Rayz. The Killer Bees got off to a quick start. Rio captain Sean Gillam fired a slap shot thru a screen in front on a power play chance to give the Bees a 1-0 lead at 7:04. It was the second straight game with a goal for Gillam against the Bucks. Late in the period the Bucks went on a 30 second two-man advantage. Forward Brent Cullaton moved the puck from the high point to the right circle for forward Jeff Bes. Bes then fed it across backdoor for forward Adam Paiement who slam dunked the puck into the net at 18:53 to tie the game at one. It was the third straight game with a goal for Paiement and his ninth of the year. The goal extended Paeiment's and Bes' point streak to a season high seven straight games.

The second period turned wild and crazy. At 3:59 of the period Killer Bees forward Ryan Shymr was assessed a five minute match penalty for slew footing. A basic explanation is that slew footing is tripping a player from behind with your skate.

The Bucks wasted no time working on the major power play chance. Paiement hopped on a rebound and stuffed it into the net for his second of the game at 4:47 to make it 2-1 Laredo. Just 29 seconds later it was defenseman Phillippe Lauze scoring on a wrist shot to make it 3-1. The Killer Bees argued that the the goalie had been interfered with, but the goal stood. This began a meltdown for the Bees as they took penalty after penalty while still killing the major penalty. Bes then scored the goal of the night. With his skates behind the goal line he took a pass from forward Scott Kelman and then slid the puck into the net from the corner with almost no angle to work with. It was his team leading thirteenth of the season and it came at 8:15. Rio Grande Valley goalie Jeff Levy went ballistic at this point, heaving his glove and then firing a water bottle the entire length of the ice. Just 34 seconds later Paiement finished off the hat trick by scoring on a slam dunk backdoor pass from Bes at 8:49 to make it 5-1.

The Killer Bees finally got on the board in the second period when defenseman Derek Holland wristed in a power play goal at 12:14 to make it 5-2 after forty minutes.

In the third period the Bucks assault continued as Rio Grande Valley was assessed an unsportsmanlike call at the end of the second period that carried over to the start of the third. Forward Darryl Lloyd was knocked down behind the net, scrambled back to his feet then shoveled the puck to forward James Hiebert. Hiebert centered to a cutting Lauze who scored his second of the game at 1:44 to make it 6-2. At 2:46 of the period Killer Bees forward Jason Hawes ran Bucks goalie Jeremy Symington. This set off a line brawl that delayed the game for over 20 minutes and saw the goalies, Levy for Rio and Jeremy Symington for Laredo, even get involved. When the gloves and sticks were picked up Laredo went back to work. Forward Hans Benson scored yet another power play goal to make it 7-1 Bucks at 11:05. It was the third of the year for Benson. The Bucks finally cracked thru even strength when Bes scored his second of the game at 14:46 on a rebound to cap the scoring. FINAL SCORE Laredo 8, Rio Grande Valley 2.

Symington got his sixth straight win by stopping 17 of 19 shots and improved to 8-3-0. David Guerrera finished up in net for Laredo by stopping all six shots he saw. Levy took the loss allowing six goals on 23 shots to fall to 6-11-0. Jacque Vezina allowed two goals on 14 shots as he took over for Levy. The Bucks finished with seven power play goals, while the Killer Bees had a pair on the man advantage.
