Laredo fell Monday night in game five 2-1, to fall behind in the series three-games-to-two. The Bucks jumped out in front on Steve Simoes second goal of the playoffs in the second period, only to give up two straight goals to the Sundogs. The Bucks would fall to 5-2 in the playoffs (33-7-2 overall) when scoring the first goal. Arizona would score the game-winning goal with eight minutes left in the game when Karl Sellan scored in the Laredo crease. The Bucks were out shot 13-4 in the final period.
John Ceci played well in net for Laredo, stopping 31 shots to suffer his first career playoff loss (3-1 record). In four games this postseason Ceci has allowed just 1.98 goals per game.
The Bucks are led in scoring this postseason by Chris Stanley (6-7=13) and Adam Rivet (3-9=12). Six of Stanley's 13 points are via the power-play, as he has scored three power-play goals and dished out three power-play assists.
Arizona is one win away from making their first trip to the President's Cup Finals, in just their second year of existence. The Sundogs won games four and five at home 4-3, and 2-1 to take a 3-2 series lead.
The Sundogs are led in playoff scoring by Cory Urquhart (12-7=19), and Alex Leavitt (3-16=19). Tyler Redenbach however has proven to be a big factor for Arizona. Redenbach, who was sent down at the start of the series with the Bucks, has dished out eight assists in the five games thus far, including two game-winning assists. Redenbach has also taken and won the majority of the face offs since game three in Arizona.
Rob McVicar has done the job in net for Arizona, beating Laredo twice to improve his postseason record to 6-0. McVicar has set aside 66 of 70 Bucks shots in the series (games 4 and 5). Marco Emond is 1-2 against the Bucks in the series, falling in games two and three. Emond is 3-3 against his former team all-time in the playoffs (2-1 last season with Colorado).
Both Laredo and Arizona have struggled on the power-play in the series. The Bucks have gone 4-28 (14%) in the five games, while Arizona has gone 4-39 (10%) with the man advantage. The Bucks have taken 119 minutes of penalties this series, while the Sundogs have spent just 85 minutes in the box.
The last time the Bucks faced elimination at home was game five of the 2005 President's Cup Finals against Colorado. Laredo came into that game trailing the series three games-to-one, and lost game five 1-0 to end their season on home ice.
Seven current Bucks were on the roster the last time the Bucks faced elimination at home (Jeff Bes, James Hiebert, Paul Elliott, Igor Agarunov, Steve Simoes, Steve Weidlich, Serge Dube).
The Bucks have faced elimination on their home ice six times before, going 4-2 in those games. Laredo was knocked out of the playoffs at the LEC twice before, in the 2003 Conference Finals against Austin, and in the 2005 Finals against Colorado.
If Laredo is going to advance to their fifth straight President's Cup Finals they have to win both games six and seven on their home ice this weekend, something they have done before. In the 2004 President's Cup Finals Laredo trailed the series three-games-to-two, before winning game six and seven in front of a sold-out 8,002 fans at the LEC. Laredo took game six 5-1, and then won game seven in overtime 3-2 to win their first ever CHL Championship.
If the Bucks win Friday night, game seven is on tap for Saturday at the LEC, with the winner advancing to the President's Cup Finals. The family four pack will be available for just $48. The family four pack consists of four tickets for $48, with FOUR FREE HOT DOGS, AND FOUR FREE SODAS. Call 718-BUCK (2825) to order yours today. A Bucks win Friday forces a deciding game seven Saturday in Laredo, with a white out taking place again at the LEC. *Bucks Notes*
