Bucks Bring In Rookie Defenseman

LAREDO, Texas - The 2006 CHL President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks announced today that they have signed rookie defenseman Philippe Seguin. Seguin spent four years in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and is the 19th player signed this off season by Laredo. The Bucks are offering a family four pack of season tickets for the 2006-07 CHL regular season, which works out to just over $7 a seat per game and is a 48 % savings off walkup prices. Seguin, a 5'11" 185 pound defenseman, spent this past season at Concordia University in Montreal playing Canadian college hockey. In 19 games he had five goals and nine assists to lead all defenseman on the team with 14 points.

Previously he spent the 2004-05 season with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the QMJHL. In 70 games he had five goals and 36 assists for a career high 41 points which was ninth best among QMJHL defenseman.

"Seguin is a really good skater with great speed," said Bucks head coach Terry Ruskowski. "He is good on the power play and is a real offensive threat. He is an important part of our future."

He spent three seasons with Rouyn-Noranda after playing his rookie campaign with Val-d'Or Foreurs.

The Boucherville, Quebec, native totaled 40 points for the Huskies in 2003-04, which coupled with his 41 point 2004-05 season means he has two of the top ten scoring seasons by a Huskies defenseman in franchise history.

"I decided I wanted to start school first, but now is the time to give professional hockey a try," said Seguin. "To have a chance to join an organization that has won two championships in the last three years is great. I have heard a lot of good things about Terry Ruskowski."

Seguin played 202 career junior hockey games and registered exactly 100 points.

His brother Samuel played four years of major junior hockey in the QMJHL and also four years of Canadian college hockey. Samuel played overseas in Germany last year, and now plays in the Quebec Senior league.
