SteelHounds Sign a Pair of Players; Both Headed to Syracuse's AHL Training Camp

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - The Youngstown SteelHounds and Head Coach Kevin Kaminski announced today that forwards Shaun Landolt and Kelly Thomson have signed contracts for the upcoming season and that both players will attend the American Hockey League (AHL) training camp of the Syracuse Crunch.

Landolt, 21, is a former eighth round selection (237th overall) of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. The 6-1, 205-pound forward played four games last season with the Toronto Marlies (the Maple Leafs AHL affiliate) recording no points and four penalty minutes. Prior to last season, Landolt attended the Maple Leaf's NHL training camp. The remainder of his rookie season was spent with the Pensacola Ice Pilots of the ECHL where he scored 12 goals with 16 assists and 65 penalty minutes. The Cloverdale, British Columbia native played 283 games in the Western Hockey League (WHL) seeing action with both Moose Jaw and Calgary. In his WHL career, Landolt scored 60 goals with 71 helpers. He played in 36 career WHL playoff games totaling five goals and eight assists.

Thomson, 21, will be entering his rookie season after two strong seasons in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Last season, the London, Ontario native split time between London and Oshawa combining to score six goals with 17 assists and 156 penalty minutes. The previous year in London saw him score nine goals with six assists and 161 penalty minutes. He played in 18 playoff games with the Knights during the 2004-05 season helping them win the Memorial Cup. During their championship run, the 5-10, 200-pound forward scored a pair of goals with an assist and 50 penalty minutes.

The Crunch serves as the AHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Columbus Blue Jackets. Training camp for Syracuse will begin Saturday, September 23rd and run through October 3rd and will take place at the War Memorial at Oncenter in Syracuse. The Crunch have four pre-season games scheduled squaring off against the Rochester Americans, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and twice versus the Hamilton Bulldogs.
